History/Social Science

In Social Studies classes, students are engaging in many new learning activities and academic discourse. Students participate in Socratic Seminars, and other similar activities that help students with problem solving, communication, and inquiry-based-learning. Senior-level Civics classes participate in a semester-long inquiry based project called “Civics Action Project.” The students solve a real world problem of their own choosing and present their results to an authentic audience. Department-wide common writing rubrics help students formulate arguments, and write academically and argumentatively. Social Studies classrooms complete current event assignments that aim to connect past events to present ones.
