Principal, Francisco Manriquez

Mr. Manriquez immigrated to the United States from Mexico with his family as a young child and grew up in Ukiah. A graduate of Ukiah High School, he went on to study and compete collegiately as a wrestler at the University of California, Davis, where he completed a bachelor’s degree in Spanish with a minor in Chicano/a Studies. He began his educational career in 2011 at Cardinal Newman High School as a physical education teacher and wrestling coach before eventually becoming Dean of Students. Most recently, he has served as the Vice Principal and Leadership Teacher at Sonoma Valley High School where he has worked to create opportunities for students to engage during the pandemic, overseen the reopening of the athletics program, and taken a leadership role in implementing educational technology programs.
 
Mr. Manriquez completed a Master’s in Education with an emphasis on Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning at Sonoma State University in 2018. He is known as a hard-working, supportive, and equity-minded educator at the schools where he has served. As a coach, he was always successful at attracting new wrestlers to the sport and won a Div. III North Coast Section dual championship in 2017 while coaching Cardinal Newman. He is certified in AVID, versed in positive behavior practices, such as Restorative Justice, and brings strong expertise in world language curriculum and instruction. Finally, his bilingual/bicultural skills and knowledge as well as a depth of lived experience enable him to uniquely relate to the experiences of many students and families in our community.
